Being low on energy can really suck. Especially when you have a day full of adventure to look forward to. Most people don't realize it, but the foods you are eating..or...not eating can either add or deplete you of your energy. Keep reading to find out why.
Choosing the right foods and eating them at the right times can drastically change your energy quantities. Foods higher in sugar such as candy and donuts will spike your energy levels for a brief moment and then drastically decreases a moment later. Foods high in carbohydrates such as a wonderful bagel can have a similar effect but when eaten at the right time will make a tremendous difference in energy. Your body converts certain foods into energy in different ways. Below, I will list a few snacks that will aid in boosting your energy throughout the day.
1. Blueberries: Low in calories and packed full of antioxidants and fiber, blueberries allow the slow release of energy throughout the body keeping you revved up throughout the day.
2: Bananas: Composed moslty of natural sugars and fiber, bananas are high in carbs as well as vitamin B6 and potassium. Best eaten at the beginning of the day or right before exercise.
3. Sweet potatoes: Are a great source of complex carbohydrates which means that your body digests them slowly allowing you to have a steady supply of energy throughout the day. An amazing replacement to normal white potatoes.
4. Apples: A great source of fiber and carbohydrates. Full of natural sugars, they provide slow and sustained energy release. Apples are also full of antioxidants that could slow the digestion of carbohydrates, releasing more energy over an extended period of time.
5. Strawberries: Also packed full of antioxidants, strawberries provide, carbs, fiber and sugars that will surely boost your energy level.
Although absolutely delicious.....ditch the mid day doughnut and try one of these energy boosting foods! Your body will thank you. :)
