Leaving home and going to the gym can sometimes be a burden (Don't tell anyone I said that)...but it doesn't have to stop you from working out! Whether its a snow day, rainy day or....the kids are home, I will list a few (two of my go-to;s and a few extras) pieces of equipment that will aid you in your home workout.

Resistance Bands

There are many benefits of adding resistance bands to your workouts including:

  • They're cost effective as heck! Ranging from about $5-$20(Check these resistance bands out on Amazon)

  • They can be used with almost any exercise

  • They add resistance to any exercise you do (Obviously)

  • Along with resistance, they can also add assistance to any exercise you perform with a few modifications.

  • They're lightweight and can fit in almost any sized travel/gym bag

Medicine Ball

  • As portable as a basket ball and in the same price bracket. (Check this one out on Amazon : Medicine Ball

  • Its versatility allows it to be incorporated into multiple exercises like Squats, Lunges, Jumps, Dead-lifts, Shoulder Presses, Push-Ups and Chest Tosses.

  • Improves explosiveness (Throw it at a wall... helps with

  • Perfect for a game of sit up catch with a willing partner (lol)

  • Perfect for functional movement (What are functional movements?)

  • Builds grip strength

  • Due to the shape of the kettlebell and the weight not being centered, it builds stability when used for certain exercises (squats for example) and increases power

  • Pretty inexpensive (Check this one out on Amazon : Kettlebell )

  • Space savers! Less bulky than a dumbbell set

Weighted Jump rope

  • Improves coordination (Great for increased footwork performance when boxing)

  • Strengthens the ankles which reduces ankle injuries

  • Portable(Like.....seriously portable)

  • Burns more calories than running as stated in MensHealth: Why Jumping Rope Is the Best Total-Body Workout You Haven't Tried Yet "after six weeks of daily 10-minute jump-rope exercises, participants demonstrated the same levels of improvement to their cardiovascular health as individuals who jogged for 30 minutes a day"

  • Jump ropes are also inexpensive. (Check this on out on Amazon: Weighted Jump rope)
